About Us
Our journey began humbly from a shift in lifestyle choices with our founder, Rohit Vasudevan, who was then training in the field of aerodynamics engineering. What started as a desire to improve self-awareness and self-defense gradually transitioned into thorough sparring sessions between friends Rohit and his first training partner, Nandith Chandy, with daily training sessions conducted in the confines of a bedroom.
This later grew into the institute of Jiu-jitsu, one of the first of its kind to specialise in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and an institution accredited with being solely responsible for the propagation and growth in awareness of this beautiful art form.

How we started
In 2012, Rohit’s nascent passion took its first tangible step with the procurement of a rented space within Energy Fitness, marking the transition from a personal endeavor to a more structured pursuit.
The next year saw a trip to the London Fight Factory in the UK, where Rohit V earned his blue belt and developed the confidence to come back to Banglore, India, and continue the propagation of the knowledge of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. The vision crystallized, giving birth to the name “Institute Of Jiu-Jitsu.”
The year 2014, saw the institute’s competitive spirit flourish, with significant victories in key competitions solidifying its growing reputation.
In 2015, the institute took a significant leap, establishing its own dedicated space. However, this progress was abruptly halted by a devastating flood caused by torrential rain, forcing a temporary closure. Undeterred, the institute relocated to Frazer Town in 2016, marking a new chapter of resilience.
The year 2018 brought a significant milestone, as the Institute Of Jiu-Jitsu became an affiliate of the prestigious Caio Terra Academy, enhancing its lineage and expertise. In 2019, another pivotal moment arrived with Rohit’s promotion to purple belt bestowed by the legendary Yuri Simoes, who not only provided guidance at his earlier stages of training but is also an honoured and regular visitor of our institute.
The challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic led to another relocation in 2020, with the institute finding a new home in Sadashivanagar. In 2022, the journey continued with another promotion for Rohit from Yuri Simoes, this time to brown belt, further solidifying the institute’s technical prowess.
A significant transformation occurred in 2023, with Nidha Dilip assuming the role of Director and CEO, ushering in an era of enhanced professionalism and strategic growth of the institute. As of 2025, the Institute Of Jiu-Jitsu stands as a leading academy in Bangalore, offering unparalleled facilities and setting a new standard for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu education in the region.
What we do
In 2013, Rohit began training with Vijay Krishnan, someone he credits as the co-founder and his continued training partner and mentor. This began an arduous journey of observation, adoption and reverse engineering, with both Rohit and Vijay watching training videos to expand their knowledge, putting what they observed into practice and then brainstorming ideas and techniques that would not just be efficient and effective, but also simplified enough for anyone to recreate.
This has set the tone of the approach we have when it comes to anyone who would like to learn at our institute, even to the extent that we are proud of all of our current instructors who started off as our students and have branched out and grown in this field, either teaching at our institute or having started their own gyms to continue with the progress on their journeys.
We continue to propagate the vast knowledge of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu with a touch of curiosity and child-like inquisitiveness ensuring that we provide a safe place to learn, grow and never judge.
What we aim for
Our main goal is to provide an inclusive environment where people from all walks of life feel welcome, safe and comfortable enough to learn at their own pace and capacity.
Here at our institute we choose to propagate an open-minded and curiosity-driven approach to the nuanced art form of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu by encouraging a strong sense of community, an approachable student-institute relationship and making learning as fun, effective and safe as possible.
